AMIR Khan's hopes of becoming the youngest British boxer to win a world title have been dashed by the failure of Gavin Rees to successfully defend his WBA light-welterweight title against Andreas Kotelnik.

With just two fights left on his current deal with ITV, Khan's manager Frank Warren had hoped to set up a lucrative encounter between the two.
