A man battling against a rare and aggressive brain tumour is running out of time as his family desperately raise money for treatment abroad.

Mark Downey from Bolton has Glioblastoma, an incurable brain tumour. He has a life expectancy of just 12-14 months.

The 44-year-old is not expected to reach his 50th birthday as time is running out for the family, now desperate for life-saving treatment in America or Germany.

Mark is currently undergoing chemotherapy at Christie's.

His sister Stephanie Downey said: “I just don’t even know if I can put it into words.

“Time is ticking down now.

The family are looking to raise around £70k for the treatment abroad which costs around £100k.

Immunotherapy or Car T-Cell therapy if successful, can add years on to a life.

Steph said: “He is pushing through the best that he can, and it is terrifying for him and do not know what the next steps are.

Mark’s family want him to be home for their children’s milestone moments.

In a statement, the family said: “Mark is a very private person but the bravest soul, who dreams of any extra time he can have extra with his family.

“Mark’s greatest desire is to watch his son Tyler age 12 graduate high school, he dreams of the day he can share the joy for prom night, standing tall like any father should.”

Mark was diagnosed in September 2023, and did not have any signs prior to a migraine and vomiting which sent him to A&E.

Following a test, consultants confirmed that Mark had an IDH wild type unmethylated tumour, which means that a person may not benefit from radiotherapy or chemotherapy.
