A Bolton homelessness charity is on the hunt for volunteers to support its community café and charity shops.

Emmaus Bolton has a number of roles they need help to fill, ranging from volunteering with preloved fashion to helping out in its community café, all at its base off Fletcher Street.

Emmaus is looking for individuals with suitable skills and experience, as well as a commitment to volunteer at least three to six hours per week.

Jackie Emmett has been volunteering at the charity for four years, starting out in its scrap store of recycled arts and crafts before moving onto help at Emmaus Bolton’s food bank, Lucie’s Pantry.

Jackie said: “Emmaus Bolton is unique because you are volunteering alongside the people the charity supports.

“Realising these people are getting on and trying to improve their lives is what makes the experience even better. I admire these people a lot for getting on and trying to improve their lives and get back to normality.

“I find everyone who lives and helps at the charity so lovely because they always make you feel as though you are needed; you are thanked for your help, and you are appreciated.”

Emmaus Bolton supports formerly homeless people by providing a stable home, support and work opportunities for as long as this is needed.

The charity runs seven social enterprises, taking in and selling donated furniture, household goods, bric-a-brac and clothing.

There is also a garden centre as well as an on-site furniture-making and upcycling service.

Charity director Tony Stephenson said: “Our local volunteers are a much-valued part of the Emmaus Bolton team.

“We’re keen to expand the range of roles we offer so people can now help out in our charity café.

“Hopefully, there are opportunities that will appeal to all ages, skills and interests.

“If you would like to get involved, then get in touch or visit us to see first-hand what we’re all about.”

Emmaus Bolton offers all volunteers an opportunity to develop their skills and gain experience for a worthwhile cause.

Training is offered where possible, lunch is provided on the days you volunteer, and travel expenses are available.
