THE coat of an 11-year-old girl who was grabbed in an attempted abduction is being analysed by forensic experts.
School children have also been warned to by wary of strangers after the incident in Walkden on Monday, and police patrols have been stepped up.
The girl was on her was to St Georges RC High School and was walking along Shearwater Drive when a man asked her to get into his black pick up truck.
When she refused he grabbed her coat, and may have left traces of DNA on it.
The girl managed to break free and ran to school to raise the alarm.
Philip Harte, headteacher of St Georges RC High School, said: "We have warned the youngsters to be on the lookout for strangers and to stay in groups.
"We have informed all the other schools in Salford about the incident and the police are treating it very seriously."
Det Con Dan Worthington, of Swinton CID, said: "We are following up a number of lines of inquiries, including forensic analysis on the girl's coat.
"We also have high visibility patrols in the area to reassure the public."
The man is described as white, with short brown spiked hair, brown eyes, and a clear complexion.
He had distinctive sideburns and a tooth missing from his upper row of teeth.
