Trio must wait for talks

STALWART trio Jussi Jaaskelainen, Ricardo Gardner and Ivan Campo must wait until next week at the earliest before knowing how far Wanderers are prepared to go to keep them at the Reebok.

They are three of five members of Gary Megson's survival squad who are out of contract this summer and whose futures were put on hold during the battle against relegation.

Stelios Giannakopoulos and Andranik Teimourian's contracts also expire next month, but the Greece international is understood to be already resigned to this being his final season, while the Iranian's lack of involvement under Megson - he has played just 32 minutes of Premiership football since the new boss arrived - has led to speculation he could be surplus to requirements.

Nevertheless, even with survival almost certain, the Wanderers boss refuses to look any further than Sunday's final game at Chelsea.

I hope they give Gardner another contract.
The lad is Bolton through and through.

gardner another 12 months as he's started to struggle but samuel and gardner are far from the worst left backs in the premier, if al habsi signs i'd rather move on without jussi i feel he has let us down the last few weeks, slightly souring the last few years, i think its best he moves on for all concerned and remember him at his best, i dont believe the injury story at all, i think he's taken bad advice from his agent in my opinion, campo is a certainty to leave because recently he's been kicking for touch line position instead of passing and his legs have gone, i think campo has been a fantastic player for us, but strangely cant tackle, pass, run or stay on his feet, normally this would make him crap, however scurrying around like a rabid rodent somehow has worked and his role in front of the back four as a spoiler/enforcer has worked well, i think being spanish has helped as it gives an air of culture to his play. this is a hard position we need to fill as we have struggled without campo, great player but not sure why! perhaps its because he seems to give more than 100%

Yep I more or less agree with everything you say. I think Campo is more about his 'presence' that any particular aspect to his game now. He's still got the vision but the skill to match is slowly deserting him.

I'm not sure about Gardner though. His distribution at full back is very poor and has cost us games - but I'd prefer him to JLS.

From the rumors ive heard the pie eaters are after ricky.

I think they are just going to wave them out the back door, its absolutly shocking behaviour!

Im very worried about the end of the season as we will lose a lot of players of whom i dont think Gartside will spend money to replace (as per usual)! If Bolton are to do better than this year they have to be brave and start gambling on some good quality players! But as i said i cant see this being the case!
Posted by: wanderer23, wigan on 9:27am Thu 8 May 08
i'd let jussi go, his hearts not in it and his agent is a complete numpty, maybe another deal for ricky, although his injury record is poor, i would personally keep stelios for another 12 months as he seems to score critical goals and with dioufy goin we may need all the creativity we can muster ! i'd like muamba from birmingham for the campo role, he's young, strong and could influence games prob get him for 4 mil. JLS has been great the last few games , pity he wasn't like that at the start of the season. lita would an ok signing for around 3 mil, but i think reading will survive, which leaves us, with picking the scraps from the other teams that go down ! hope we sign some proven quality, unlike the cohens of the world ! regardless of what happens next season though, once a trotter, always a trotter ! ! ! ! ! !

Obviously not for certain yet.
Campo although he is a great guy past his best but Gardner and Jussi have been great for us so think we must keep them if at all possible.
Would hate it if Ricky went to WIgan but you can't really blame anyone when you are down there it is the norm to wait till end of season to renew contracts. Time will tell

Hope someone somewhere sees sense and gives Stelios a new contract notice he isn't mentioned above but for me should be one of first.

Campo and Stelios have been great for us, but they can't go on forever.

A sad thing that neither will be allowed to say goodbye to the fans (echoes of JJ, Youri and Bruno)....

Anyone been wondering why Andranik hasn't had a game?

From Goal.com

"...“I know the problem is not related to my fitness or ability to execute on the field. I am in the best shape of my life and I am more comfortable communicating with my coaches and teammates”, Teymourian told the Iranian Student News Agency.

“I have spoken with coach Megson twice. He told me that considering the team’s current struggle to stay on the top league, he prefers to use players that he knows best.”

Probably because its only a number 8 bus ride away from Bolton :-)

I cant see Campo being offered another contract, stalwart he has been, he is now well past his sell by date. Maybe he can get a few more years in a lower division. I would like to see Stelios here next year, we haven`t seen enough of the guy this year. Jussi, time for pastures new.

A mate of mine is a Stoke City supporter with some links to the club and reckons Tony Pulis is set to make Stelios one of his first signings, and by all accounts has tried to get him in on loan 3 times since Christmas.

Keep Gardner and Stelios, both proved their worth (how crucial now was that 93rd-minute Stelios goal against Derby?). The others can go.
Hope you all took my advice last week and backed the Bolton, Spurs, Fulham treble on Saturday at 11/1.
Just collected my winnings....

All the players out of contract will dent our wage bill and when it comes to saving money at the expence of the side and posible relegation then look no further at boltons chairman.
Posted by: alptrotter, Smithills on 11:39am Thu 8 May 08
I agree regarding Ricky and Stelios.... they should surely be offered new contracts. As to the Campo role, again i agree he is sadly now past his best (great player though he has been). Does no one else think we have potentially a ready made replacement in Blerim Dzemaili.... give him a full pre season, get him involved and he could be a very good player for us (certainly better than Joey O'B or Gavin Mccann ) A player that chose us over Juventus deserves a proper chance
Posted by: Andy Jones on 11:42am Thu 8 May 08
Neither Gardner or Jussi have been around for the relegation turn around. Habsi is well worth his place in goal, Jussi needs to learn his place or just bugger off elsewhere. I suggest each time he asks for more money they show him that own goal he scored for Liverpool when he contrived to head a shot which was originally going wide into his own net.
Oh and Gardner's knees mean he hasn't a chance of passing a medical anywhere else so unless he wants to sign a pay-as-you-play deal at Wigan, he'd be better off staying where he is.

Stelios should be signed up for life an given the freedom of Bolton. He lost his place to Anelka and should have regained it the second he left. Quite frankly, the guy just scores goals.
Posted by: trottersforever, bolton on 11:47am Thu 8 May 08
I agree we should give Ricky and Stelios at least another year, I would make sure that Al Habsi is tied into at least a 3 yr extension on the year he has left on his contract and would let Jussi go, (this has to have been one of his least consistent years for us)...Campo has been terrible for the last couple of months and is well past his best, great servant, but would let him go, along with Braaten, Alonso & Rasiak. Cohen could be worth persevering with, he is still young, I certainly would not be selling Dzemali, he is young and hasn't been given a chance yet.

We definitely need at least 2 strikers...what does anyone think about Kitson if Reading go down? Or Peter Crouch seems very unsettled at sitting on Liverpool's bench.

All the ones who put extra effort into the games for the last 4 matches should be shown the door as they should have put the effort in for the previous 15 games. Its all well and good praising the team for staying up yet do you not say why have they returned champions league form when previously we were in free fall. The ones who have put the effort in all season stand out and its the others who realised that their wages were going to be cut who should go.

Stelios is a genius on the football field! he will be defending his european title this summer and i hope he wins it again to see him parade his children on the pitch in wanderers tops!

That sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face to me. Surely a better alternative would be to look into why a lot of the players weren't putting the effort in before and addressing the problem. After a torrid time for most of this season, we need some stability.

I hope the board have realised the mistakes they have made over the last 18 months and make money available to be spent in the summer. I am probably in dreamland and it will never happen, but they need get rid of Megson, appoint a much better quality manager and give them the cash incentive to buy new quality players.

I'd be very suprised if Megson will be able to attract anyone with any pedigree if he stays and if the board don't get this sorted now, I convinced we'll be fighting a relegation battle again next season.

I hope and pray the board have the sense to see the error of their ways in recent times but won't be suprised if we continue in the same vain.

I agree with some, letting gardner leave probably would be a bad idea.
As for campo leaving, its ashame but it was always coming and atleast he still has a few playing years in spain left.

Stelios is already going to greece!

I wish Adranik had been tied down and used alot more, he may not be in megsons plans but he's still better than cohen,
I truely think letting him go will backfire bigtime, they should have sold him last summer when ossasuno came in for him.

I wish people would stop saying Blerim is now the answer,
piece of advice watch him play first,
he is not ready for the premiership-simple as!

Other players that need to be transfer listed/released:

VAZ-TE!
Rasiak (only on loan)
Joey B'Brien (hit and miss)
Alonso (only on loan)

Players that need a chance next season:

Fojut
Braaten (full preseason with some motivation!)
Wolze
Thompson
Johan Smith
Obadey

Players to sign:
With the players going out, we will definatly need:

2 forwards
1 right wing/midfielder
2 midfielders
1 defensive midfielder
1 leftback
1 centreback (fojut could fill this)
1 goalkeeper

First sign guthrie!

Then Gomez/Lita/Elmander (price will drop if relegated) for forwards

Feinduno who can play forward or right mid - perfect replacement for diouf and stelios!

Gera/Giovanni for 1 of the midfield places

Kone (nice) wing or forward - finally bring some pace into the team!

Not sure on other players yet!

But lets face it bar a miracle Bolton are never going to spend the money needed for these sort of players!

Gomez and Feinduno from st et will cost £15 mill
Elmander anywhere above £10+mill
Lita - £4-£5mill
Kone - £10+mill
Gera - free
Giovanni ?

Noing Bolton though we'll be lucky to spend the £15mill already lined for transfers and any extra money coming from players out.

Oh yeah and their already started cost cutting, by sacking more staff at the training ground

Let Jussi go and get Paul Robinson in as number 2 to Habsi. Robinson has had a bad season I know but he is young and would be good for us.

Dawson as for cover for AO'B.

Gera - free

Scott Sinclair (Chelsea) LOAN.

Eidur G - £5m

The polish(?) lad in goal in the reserves would be a good no2 he looks very good what ive seen of him.
The problem this summer is the only players that will sign anything will be the ones not playing in the euro's.
The defender i'd go for is the one we sold to newcastle Abdoulaye faye.

If Bolton lose (they will) and Reading win (they're playing Derby... they will) it all comes down to goal difference.

At the moment there's a huge swing in Bolton's favour - they have 11 goals more than Reading. However he's about to face the most in form team in Europe, and they'll be completely fired up. A five or six nil could not be ruled out if Bolton don't take Chelsea seriously.

Meanwhile love to Derby leak goals - they've been on their holidays since May. If Reading finally remember how to score, and equally massive score line could be on the cards, and it'd be bye-bye Bolton.

yes there is an eleven point difference which in itself is not going to be overturned i dont care what anyone says!!!!

but correct me if im wrong, arent fulham also below us?? so if that goal difference was overturned then it would be fulham and not us that went down unles they themselves also overturned a five goal deficit that we have on them!!!!
so... fulham to win 2-0
reading to win 6-0
Bolton to lose 5-0

if i were a betting man i would say we need to start looking for premiership quality for next season straight away !!!!! cos we aint goin no where !!!!!

Jussi - Thanks and goodbye
Campo - Thanks and goodbye
Stelios - Thanks and goodbye
Andranik - who is he? Oh yes - Thanks and goodbye because Gera will sign for certainty.

Ricky Gardner - Does not matter what he asks for he stays.
Heard on the grapevine that Henri Camara - has been approached by Bolton.
Diouf wants to go to Portsmouth with Uncle Harry.

The Rumour mill express will be full steam ahead from now on until next season starts.

Grin and bear it folks!!

as much as i love campo i dont think he has the legs for the premier league any more. im sure he could still do a very good job in spain or italy where the pace is a bit slower but not here.

Im sure stelios will kove on rather that warm the bench all next year which is a shame because i think we would have a few more points had he played more this season. i still think he could do a job at bolton. dont think megson does though. ricardo should get a new 1 yr or 2 yr deal. i think he deserves it. jussi has been our most consistent player for the last few years but al habsi has more years in him. if we keep jussi then al habsi will leave, but somehow i cant see gartslime being held to ransom can you.

Anyway all this hype and absolutely nothing about guthrie. im sure he wants to stay because i cant see him getting anywhere close to the liverpool starting 11 with thier quality of midfield.

I hope we get a good price for Diouf 6-7m at least, however im not sure we will get more than 5 million because he doesnt score that many.

If we lose all the out of contract / loan player then RIP next season because i cant see our new manager having too much to spend.

I saw Ricky at fireflys yesterday n i told him not to go to wigan. he just smiled at me. i think that he'll be staying here unless a top 10 side decide to come in for him. Stelios will go unfortunately - he has already said he is resigned to leaving. Jussi will be going to Villa I think. Ideally we would keep him to keep competition for the GK jersey as Al-Habsi is certainly near or even better than Jussi's ability, but if he wants to be a top earner at £45k per week, I'd be more than happy to see Villa pay him that. As for Campo, loyal servant, great entertainer, but past his best. We should give him a nice tribute and allow him to return home gracefully. Just need to secure Gardner really, clear out some of the riff raff such as Braaten, Meite, Joey O'B, McCann, Rasiak, Cohen, and spend heavily. Investment priority must be a top striker and then we need a driving, attacking, creative midfielder. A couple of centre backs to add depth wpuldn't go amiss either.

Come on apple , the season has not finished yet and the likes of yourself are having a Doom and Gloom moan already for next season - the facts are simple, buy a season ticket or do not buy a season ticket, your opinion is valid up to the point of boring because the Doom and Gloom merchants have had a field day all of this season!!

As much as I do not like Gartside and how he goes about running our club I will still be there next season, but I do not keep coming on this forum to state such a fact - no way.

As mentioned before this team needs a re-vamp from top down. We cannot keep re-cycling the same old faces who play one or two decent games then play like crap ,others are simply past it. There are one or two exeptions. Keep the core players davis and the like , get rid of the players Sammy Lee non of them have done much, at least megson has done reasonably well in his short tenure in hiring players(defensive).
Money and two or three good front men will help considerably.
Lets see how Megson does in the next round. He he does not have the pedigree and will have problems attracting big name players. The club must spend.

Saw Eidur play in the Nou Camp in April in the Barca-Espanyol derby, he was pretty poor.

He has lost any pace he once had, I fear he would not be the returning Messiah everyone seems to expect him to be...

Sign Guthrie?? Why??

What has he done to deserve a deal?

He has been pretty awful.
Best description of Guthrie was on here a few days ago. something like - beats a couple, runs around in a circle and then fails to find a White shirt with his pass. Let him go back to Liverpool - never fulfilled his potential and certainly wont with current "coach".

whoops stupid keyboard what i meant to say was thats a bit harsh considering he is 21 and its his 1st year playing in the premiership if arsenal had thought like that henry would never have turned out like he did

Danny Guthrie - How many 21 year olds in the premiership better than Danny in their first season? You will find it difficult to pass the number 5 mark when counting and when you take into consideration he was in a struggling bottom of the league team, especially the first quarter of the season, then I feel you are being a bit hard on the lad - for me he will be much the better player for this seasons experience and I would pay the £2m Liverpool are after and if next season or the season after he has not lived upto expectations then Bolton will re-coup most if not all the £2m, Danny will be good for us I feel.

I will start the 5 count for you all .......

2.rooney ( for everton)
3.micah richards
4.joe hart
5.lennon

although each one of these are worth 10 mil each so 2 mil for danny doesn't seem too bad, he's only gonna get better 1 has anyone heard any rumors about strikers ? crouch is too expensive, we still after elmander, still feel that lita would be worth a go as he's still young ?

no way would we buy elmander they wanted 7m at first then the second we sold anelka it shot up to 22m only striker rumour ive heard of is gomis but he's more keen ona move to italy aside from that and gera its all quiet on the transfer front.

We havent shown anything like Champions League form in the last 4 games and neither have we tried harder. We were trying 100% before but we werent good enough, not helped by Megson's selections. In the last 4 games we still werent good enough, but were lucky enough to play teams that either didnt care enough or were just unlucky on the day (or both). Would just add my voice to the "keep Gardner and Stelios" vote. If they end up at say Wigan and Stoke we are immediately helping our rivals strengthen whilst we become even weaker.

That sounds like cutting off your nose to spite your face to me. Surely a better alternative would be to look into why a lot of the players weren't putting the effort in before and addressing the problem. After a torrid time for most of this season, we need some stability.
I thought the players have been busting a gut at least since January. Which games did you think we didnt try, and which players? I would be chuffed if I just thought the problem was a lack of effort - if only.

This should be pasted up in the Away dressing room on Sunday!!! from Chelsea Pies blog "Megson promises to "try" against Chelsea. Does he really not think the blues could put Bolton down? (Of Negson!!!) What an idiot Gary Megson is. He's been harping on today that he'll do Manchester United a favour and make sure his players don't treat the Chelsea game as a friendly. Does he really think Bolton can not go down? Is he that stupid. "I would expect us to play properly, to put a foot in and to compete," harped ginger Meggo over a glass of champange. "We are certainly not going to short-change the people who are going down there. Sir Alex and I know each other. But I haven't called anyone looking for favours to be done for us. I don't think you have to." Wow. Come on you Whites! Put on a great show for the 3000 of us and break their hearts - and home record!
I thought the same - I dont give a stuff what effect our result has on other teams, and neither should Megson. If at h-t we are losing 2-0 and Reading are winning 3-0 (not impossible surely) do we try to attack Chelsea to pull back the goals to give us a point? That's what we would be doing if the game was in January, we would play to equalise. But on Sunday its vital we keep the score down, we arent going to put 3 strikers on to make an attacking game of it, we are there on Sunday to make sure we only lose by 2 or 3 at the most. If its 3-0 we should be the one's keeping the ball by the corner flag! I dont care about being seen to do Man U a favour.

You know what quite well? That Addidas has seventy-three d's in its name? How would a company like Addidas (sic) use the "reputation" of Reebok without the brand name? What are you on about? Typical Gartside.

I know quite well that Addidas bought the Reebok name for the goodwill rather than anying else. The Reebok name has all but gone in most countries around the world. Even in the US where it was a very strong brand it has been reduced to a sponsor name until the deals runs out and then changing the name to Addidas. Even here in the UK it is really only ourselves (i.e. Bolton Wanderers) that still keeps the brand name going but for how much longer. Again, here in the UK where Reebok were shirt manufacturers with their name on they have been replaced by addidas - so it really wouldn't surprise me if Bolton's new strip will have addidas somewhere on it - although the name Sponsor name will be kept to Reebok (or RBK) until at least the end of the sp
