Whites boss apologises to fans
GARY Megson has apologised to supporters who were upset that they were denied the traditional end-of-season "lap of honour".
The Wanderers players saluted the crowd individually after they signed off with a crucial 2-0 victory over Sunderland, but there was no organised salute - as there has been in previous years - which has led to complaints from some fans.
Megson said it was inappropriate to celebrate when they were still not mathematically safe from the threat of relegation, but insisted it was not intended as a "slight" on the fans.
"The supporters here are very much appreciated by myself, the staff and the players, and I apologise on behalf of everybody," he said. "But I'm sure they understand there is still work to be done."
Of the lack of an organised celebration to mark the end of the season, he said: "These things have to be planned. Players stayed about afterwards but, we are where we are, and there's nothing to be charging round the pitch about. Everybody will be pleased if we can stay in this division, but it's not over yet."

to be honest he has a point, however it was yet another pr clanger, have you thought about appointing 'max clifford' (on second thoughts), as i'm well known for being against megson, i'd like to back it up with facts, as a rule over a career wins and losses well outweigh draws, however in megsons managerial career and consistantly throughout i may add, he has drawn matches, in fact such a draw specialist is he that he may reach 200 draws in his managerial career before he reaches 200 wins, a remarkable if somewhat boring achievement. stats can lie but i think this is another pointer, or should i say one pointer towards the football we should expect. another comment on another thread refers to colin harveys appointment, is he still there and what does he do, i thought he'd retired years ago, colin harvey was a first class assistant and manager in the 80's and 90's he has never been a chief scout, again smacks of nepotism as megson probably played when harvey was around at everton, so no doubt is returning some favour, dont know what he does and havent even heard nowt from him, no doubt he will be taking credit for all our signings and blaming bsa and lsl for the ones he doesnt make, bsa appointed a lot of unknowns but they were based on talent to do specialist jobs, i know we had one of the biggest backroom staffs in the history of football! but it worked, appoint talent create talent!

Would agree there was no cause to do it. Escaping relegation at the end of the season is not cause for a lap of honour.
Players chose to do it themselves, that's not a problem. They know what the situation is regarding contracts.
One thing that might have been an idea would have been to announce it over the tannoy that none would take place, apart from the fact we had no sound from it in the East Stand on Saturday.
On another note. Has anyone seen that Sky are placing all emphasis on Wigan getting beaten on Sunday and taking it as a certainty that we will lose to Chelsea.

The "lap of honour" is not relative to any success or failure of the team. It's the player/staff way of thanking those home fans for their support during the season regardless of our predicament.
Shame on our manager and directors for not insisting it was held.

You cant blame them really Youri.
They have not lost at home since the Fall of France.
All Bolton will do is put 10 men behind the ball and hope keep the score down.
Its got 2-0 written all over it.

The players to walk round the pitch taking the acclaim of the fans and 2. Any fans to still be left in the ground except those that were chanting Gartside/Megson out? Some people just want to whinge for whingeing's sake. Re Colin Harvey. Is there any law against appointing someone you have worked with in the past? Nobody complained about BSA appointing Phil Brown or Jimmy Phillips etc etc, but if you win a few games you can do what you want, if you dont whatever you do is wrong.

Nothing to be proud of from this season, so therefore no need to do a lap of 'honour'.
Maybe a lap of 'appreciation' to the fans would have been a better bet, especially us idiots who spent a bomb going to Lisbon to watch the stiffs.....

I think Gartside should have publicly done a lap of dishonour (or should that be dishonesty)? and thanked the supporters for their amazing support and also apologised at the same time for his shambolic running of the club this season.

what could be a better reason for doing a lap of honour than allowing the players who will be moving on eg diouf, jussi, campo, stelios and possibly gardner to say goodbye after years of service

I agree with Matty - we should have been able to say goodbye to Dioufy, Jussi, Stelios etc. They have been good for our club. I felt aggrieved when we didn't get to say goodbye to Jay Jay. I know we have not much to be proud of this year or much to celebrate its not a lap of honour its a thank you to the fans who have stuck around.

They should have done the lap on Sunday. It's a way of the players saying thatkyou to the fans...they should be more appreciative this year, as we have stuck by them through a series of pretty poor performances.
The PA system not working was a real pain... no idea what was going on. What if there had been a safety announcement?
Bring back the fireworks at the start of the match....might bring us a bit of luck :-)

I'm sure that it would be reasonable to expect the club to organise a thanks you for the fans. If Jussi or Rikki do move on then are we not going to give them a testimonial which could include a "thank you" to the fans for their loyalty thro the year especially those who went to the Uefa games.

I think that the fireworks (and the music when the goals were scored) where stopped in order to usher in a new era. I quite enjoyed having a sing along to Amirillo (or whatever) when we scored a goal. They can't have stopped the music due to finances.
Apart from that, how much do a few fireworks cost? probably less than it's costs them to wine and dine our local councillers before the match

Negson is on record (BBC interview post Sunder;and match) saying that he doesn't care what the fans think. He didn't quite mean it in that way BUT it is perfectly evident in his conduct at Lisbon, most away games and the Dioufy farewell fiasco on Saturday evening.
Amazingly his managerial career win ratio is not hugely different from many of his contemporaries - but about 10% worse than Allardyce. His managerial "hatred from the fans" ratio MUST be a lot higher. Only Nolan hugged him on Saturday, so I don't think that the team think too much of him either.

Some people just make up lies to justify their irratioanl hatred of Megson and the board.
The firworks were stopped in the wake of a Wolves fan being hit in the face by one at Molineux.
If part tim esupporters want to say goodbye to the heroes like Campo, Jussi and Stelios, they've had plenty of opportunities.
But the ground's been half full for most of the season so you can't complain now.
Being a fan is supposed to cost you something. You don't just turn up on the last day of the season, have a sing song in the sun and then demand the right to spout forth innaccurate opinions on here.

I would love it if we get beat 1 - 0 at chelsea and wigan stuff the scum. (As long as reading dont win 10 - 0) A lap of honour would be appreciated then. It would be great if it was 0 - 0 after 89 mins and scum were hanging on to a point. Then up pops Anelka in injury time for a 1 - 0 win.
That could only be improved by a Chelski win in Moscow as well. Happy days.

When the wolves fan was hit last year, the Bolton fireworks stopped for one week - and continued for the rest of the season..so I don't think that that's the reason that it was stopped.
I have been to all of the matches this year - and don't jsut turn up on the last day for a sing-a-long.
The walkround just about me saying goodbye to players..it's about the players and the manager thanking me for coughing up £450 per season for my ticket & many hours of my time (not to mention money spent on shirts,Golden Gamble etc).
I don't think 15 minutes of thier time is too much to ask.

Sorry Fernando, but I dont think Anelka can play.
So anyone to score after 89mins.
Hopefully a Diouf own goal were he beats 3 defenders and smashes the ball into the top corner.

If Jussi or Stelios have agreed to join another club they could have let us know! And if Megson has no intention of offering them another contract, it might be irrelevant, who says Megson will still be here? I live in hope that Megson goes and the new manager sees sense and gives Stelios another 2 year deal. He is as fit and impressive as Gary Speed was at the same age, certainly fitter than a lot of players in the team who are younger than him. I'm not sure why we would say "bye" to Diouff when he is under contract and I would be surprised if anyone came in with a high enough bid (£5 mil plus?). It just seems inappropriate to be waving off players that we would prefer to keep.

Same as the chaps with the flags, the embarrassing "I feel good" after goals and the cacophany of noise from about 2.50 to 2.59 every match. There have been a lot of mistakes made this season, but credit where its due, I would hope this could be put down to listening to the fans. Its almost becoming a pleasure to attend the Reebok these days, the only embarrassment is Megson's team selection but at least its improving off the pitch.

Firstly anyone who utters this phrase needs stringing up! It's pathetic!
we are where we are,
And secondly, we were all expecting some sort of acknowledgment from the players - nothing to do with laps of honour. It's just an opportunity to say goodbyes and see out what has been a terrible season.
Thirdly, no point entertaining people like andy from London as he has no way of knowing who goes to every game or not! Yawn!

i see todays football gossip has got us linked with Chris Morgan Centre Back for Sheff Utd, never a Premiership Player in the memory of man, hope this story is way off the mark - we need another young / quick Centre Back to compliment Cahill.

just read this on the 606 pages on the beeb - not sure how true it is.
the new bolton kit will be unveiled tommorow and it will be worn for the first time against chelsea on sunday. the new kit is made by adidas and is simmilar to derbys kit this season. with dark blue instead of black (obviously) it has "the trotters" stitched into the back @ the neck. the sponsor for next 2 seasons is "boddingtons" which is in red text across the front. the kit will be available to buy from 12/05/08.
the away kit is green with white piping again with the "trotters stiched on the back, and no release date is confirmed yet. the adidas deal is for 3 years with the away kit changing each season and the home remaining the same for the 1st 2 seasons.

I cringed when we were lucky enough to score on Match of the Day etc. At the time they could play Glory Glory Man Utd and I wouldnt care due to the thrill of scoring, but when you see re-runs - NO!! Music is only played at small clubs, and I dont want us advertising the fact that we are small time. Ditto the Very Very Loud music played over the PA System at 2.50 to 3.00 every match - I think that has mercifully been toned down - and the chaps waving the flags (God I've had stick for that from fans of other clubs). new kit sponsors are Boddingtons??? as in Boddingtons - the pride of Manchester - oh dear. I thought the way the reebok logo has been shrinking on the shirts we may have gone a season with just an R on first though.
Also, I wish they'd revert back to navy shorts instead of all white - that was the kit when I first went to the games in the 60s and much more traditional.

Chelsea are every bit as bad as United in every way.
Their owner is a shady scumbag. Their manager hates the small clubs. Their fans don't come from their local area. They're wrecking football by paying huge prices.
So why exactly should I be desparate to see my side lose to them, even when we're not safe?

I thought he was going to apologise for the poor team performances under his management, not the lap of disgrace.
I personally would have like to thank Campo, stellios, jussi and diouf if they are to leave at the end of the season. They have all played their part in some of the best years of BWFC.

Not sure about the kit story. As far as I remember, the current deal lasts until next year and a provisional extension was agreed until 2016 in line with stadium naming rights...
As for signings, I'm no fan of Mr Megson but he's not done badly so far. That said, I hope he buys a forward or three! :)

trotters1964 - I wasnt having a go at all, it wasnt meant to come across that way. I just find it strange that we who know nothing about what an individual does behind the scenes can criticise an appointment or an individual's role. Nobody criticised BSA for appointing Jimmy Phillips, how on earth are we supposed to know he's better at his job than Colin Harvey is at his? It just seems easy to criticise every decision of Megsons when if the same decision was made by a popular manager it wouldnt be commented on. Obviously I can no more comment on whether Colin Harvey is a good appointment than you can. You misunderstood me re the crowd staying behind - I was saying that if we had lost it would have been a farce to have had a lap of honour, the atmosphere would have been 1 of fury. They were hardly likely to take the risk of announcing pre-match that there would be a lap of honour, and neither could they say "we'll just do 1 if we win". But I do agree with you - Megson should not have apologised, no need.

At the end of Sat game the 3 players I noticed making a point to wave to the fans were Diouf, Stelios and Al Habsi.
We know Di
