15,500 Bolton people to face benefits test
NEW rules on incapacity benefit will affect 15,150 claimants in Bolton.
The Government has announced that tests are to be introduced which will assess an individual's eligibility for the State handout.
Claimants who are of working age will have to undergo work capability assessments.
The new scheme, to be introduced in 2010, was announced by Secretary of State for Work and Pensions James Purnell.
But Paul McCarthy, GMB regional secretary for the North-west, said: "There is a failure to see the labour market issue for what it really is.
"In areas with high employment rates, like Berkshire, there are low rates of people on incapacity benefits, while in places with low employment rates, like South Wales, there are very high rates of people on incapacity benefits."
"The unpalatable truth is that the problem lies with the lack of demand from employers for these workers. The Government should desist from penalising the victims of this."
A total 372,940 claimants are registered in the North-west, with 8,750 in Bury and 33,060 in Manchester.

About time too! It will be interesting to see how many of these claimants are actually workshy, lazy, parasites.

15,000 people is around 10% of the working age population of Bolton. If the government wants to class them as out of work, should they not then add this 10% to the figure for unemployment?
This cuts both ways. The government have been bragging off about their success on employment, whilst all along many of the unemployed have been hidden on this benefit.

It`s about time a scheme like this was introduced but why do we have to wait till 2010?

Incapacity benefit pays better than unemployment benefit, so the unemployed reclassify themselves as medically unfit. GP's who police the system kno what is going on, but knowing that they are well overpaid as well simply keep quiet and sign people off.
Incapacity benefit claimants do NOT count as unemployed so they are excluded from the unemployment figures.
However, there are two far bigger issues whih really should be tackled first:
1 those in full-time pointless education who will end up with the same job as they would have had if they had left at 16. This employs un-necessary teachers and lecturers to deliver value destroying courses.
2 at least 25% of the public sector who are filling non-jobs doing things that destroy economic value (eg diversity officers, equal opportunities, health and safety, smoking officers, vomit inducing jobsworths and so on). There is a core of valuable public sector work to be done but an awful lot that isn't.
Leave the incapacity folk alone until these two have been tackled.

Anyway, I'm organising a forum night out. We can all meet up, get to know each other, and swop opinions.
Any suggestions as to the night's format or venue ?

for some people its not as easy as what the people call them selves with jobs the normal people to get a job, you need experience and qualifications, and many ppl wont want to go back to college because they think they are too old or think its like school.
And i dont see how people trying to find a job and trying to survive on £40 a week is being lazy its not exactly a lifestyle i want to stay in. The people who are having kids every year and claiming for them are the scroungersa and they lazy ones. just leave the ordinary jobseekers alone.

Jobseekers allowance and incapacity are two different things.

Sorry Andrew but Boris had a good point and was not one bit racist. Although perhaps he could have been a little more subtle, but I think what he means is why should we support immigrants who come over here to live off state benefits and have no intention of working. This is the same as why we should support our home grown lazy spongers? We shouldn't! But what you going to do with the lazy chav scum of this country? Can't send them anywhere.

The Tories turned a blind eye to people going onto incapacity benefit. They used it as a way to manipulate unemployment figures.
Labour have had ten years to sort it out but they have also found it a useful way to keep the lid on the true unemployment figure.
Add to that some of the points made by Lucan in his previous post ie keeping people in education longer and creation of local government posts and it all adds up to a great big lie.
The Tories turned a blind eye to people going onto incapacity benefit. They used it as a way to manipulate unemployment figures.
Labour have had ten years to sort it out but they have also found it a useful way to keep the lid on the true unemployment figure.

[bold]A tale of a family of parasites:[/bold]
My wife has a friend. The friend's brother and spouse have never worked a day in their lives, or should I say 'worked legally'.
This scumbag actually used to be a burglar.
One night he injured himself whilst 'on a job'.
They live in a brand new house, have a couple of kids, get a new car every couple of years and have 2 holidays every year.
He is on disability benefit of course.
Who says crime doesn't pay?

A room with three interrogators, bit like One Flew Over the Cockoo's Nest. There's Nurse Itsu (Rugrat) Dr. Spivey (Andrew) and Nurse Ratched (you guessed it ERICA). Now what chance would lazy chav have, he would find work.

well no, not all of them, just the ones that refuse adapt to our way of life or that are just intent on sponging off the state, ones that get mixed up in crime.
Genuine asylum seekers, immigrants that come her to work and make better lives for themselves then I welcome them.

I think we should make them all do my job for a day. I'm disabled, have various conditions etc but still despite all this manage to hold down a full time, hard working job. I know people who have the same things wrong with them, to the same degree or less who cant hold down a job. All it takes is a little bit of will power, and of course, you have to want to work. I understand that some people cannot work, but most if not all employers these days cannot discriminate on the basis of disabilities because of the Disabilities Discrimination Act. My employer has had my desk and chair, all my pc equipment, basically everything I use at work has been converted or changed to enable me to work. If thats not incentive, I dont know what is? I'd much rather be paying my way than claiming benefits, but thats just my opinion. xXx

Who remembers this song??
I've been going out with a boy
His name is Rugrat
But last night he said to me
when we were watching telly
(this is what he said)
He said listen Erica I love you
But there's this bloke I fancy
I dont want to two time you
So its the end for you and me
Who's this bloke I asked him
Andrewooooo he replied
Not THAT poof I said in dismay
yes but he's no poof he cried - he's more a man than you'll ever be
Here we go, two three four
I was so upset that I cried all the way to the chip shop
When I came out there was Andrewooo standing at the bus stop
And guess who was with him
Yeah Rugrat- and they were both laughing at me
oh, he is cruel and heartless
to pack me for Andrewooo
Just cos he's better looking than me
just cos he's cool and trendy
but I know hes a moron, Andrewoo is a moron
Andrewoo is a moron, Andrewoo is a moron
