Ensure cars are locked, say police

A SPATE of car thefts has prompted police to urge motorists to make sure their cars are locked.

Drivers are also being warned not to leave valuables on display after several insecure vehicles had items stolen from them earlier this week.

Sgt Paul Slater, of Bolton police, said: "During the warm weather people sometimes forget to wind their windows up or lock their cars and fall victim to opportunist thieves.

"We would warn people to be on their guard, especially during the summer."

On Tuesday night, between 9.30pm and midnight, thieves targeted a car parked near Victoria Square in Bolton town centre.

They opened the door of the Audi A4 and stole a rucksack containing clothing and an MP3 player.

A set of golf clubs were stolen from a Jaguar parked in Waterslea Drive, Heaton, between 9.30pm on Monday and 6.30am on Tuesday, when the boot of the car was left unlocked.

Car crooks opened the door of a Skoda Octavia in Fryent Close, Blackrod, and searched the vehicle.

It happened between 9.30pm on Monday and 7.30am on Tuesday and it is not yet known if anything has been stolen.

Thieves broke into a Ford Focus, parked in Lever Edge Lane, Great Lever, between 4pm on Monday and 3.30pm on Tuesday and stole a torch.
