GET your skates on.

Roller skating sessions start in Bolton on Friday after a successful campaign to revive the hobby.

Residents in Little Lever joined forces to push for a skating venue in the village.

They had been travelling to Altrincham to take part in their favourite pastime but now sessions will be run at Little Lever Sports Centre.

Carol Hardman helped lead the campaign.

The 48-year-old, of High Street, said: "This will get kids off the streets on a Friday night and we want Sundays to be for families, with parents and grandparents bringing children."

The Navada Experience, named after the popular rink, The Navada, which was in Spa Road from the 1950s until 1985, will run at the centre at Little Lever Specialist Language College on Fridays between 7pm and 9pm and Sundays from 3.30pm until 4.30pm.

Cllr Sean Hornby helped the residents set up the venture using the Council's Awards for All Scheme.

They have funding for ten sessions and hope to be self-funding at the end of them.

Cllr Hornby said: "It's been many years since I last tried roller skating at the Navada in the late 1970s and early 1980s "I am looking forward to the first night and my attempt to roller skate."

The sessions cost £3 and skates are available to hire for 50p. For more information contact (01204) 577980 or 07999 437348.
