APPRENTICE: Alex lands in trouble but avoids sack
A sales manager from Bolton found himself in the
firing line in the opening
episode of the new series of
The Apprentice on BBC1 last
night.
But Alex Wotherspoon, aged
24, of Rosewood,
Westhoughton, managed to
cling on by the skin of his
teeth and avoided the words
"You're Fired" from Sir Alan
Sugar.
The series see hopefuls
battling it out for a job with
Sir Alan's company.
Alex, who looks after a team
of 30 sales agents across the
north, stepped up as team
leader for the first task set
on the show, trying to sell
seafood in a London market.
But he found himself a fish
out of water.
Under Alex's leadership, the
team split into two camps,
arguments broke out and
stock was wrongly identified
and sold too cheaply.
The task was to identify,
price up and sell £600 worth
of fish and make a profit. The
girls team, Alpha, won
making £153 profit.
The boys' team, calling
themselves Renaissance and
led by Alex, made just £32.
At the end of last night's
show, three people were up
for the sack - Alex, Raef
Bjayou, aged 27, from
London, and Nicholas de
Lacy-Brown, aged 23, from
Shoreham-by-Sea.
Sir Alan said that ultimately
the finger pointed at Alex.
"A good team leader does not
have a split team," he said.
Alex was saved from the sack
because he was given credit
for putting himself forward
for the job of team leader.
Instead, Nicholas de Lacy-
Brown, a trainee barrister,
was fired for underselling the
fish.
He admitted he did not get
on with Alex..
Next week the teams face
the challenge of setting up
their own laundry business.

I thought Alex did really well. I don't normally watch this but thought I would to see how our local lad did. Some of the other ones were so far up their own backsides that they won't last long.

He is soooo nice - why have I never seen him around? It's nice to have someone gorgeous loking from Bolton on the Telly - it's not all Fred Dibnah and Peter Kay. Anyone know where I can go for a goggle??
Glad that fool with the "educated and uneducated divide" went. Clearly someone else who thinks that you can't be educated and soeak with a Northern Accent

More appalling get rich quick muppets being given their 15 minutes of fame.
Is it any wonder our society is wallowing in crapulence.

The usual bunch of egotistical wannabes. All obsessed by bling and money, and climbing that greasy pole.
A woman wins it anyway.

Andrew knows this as he has access to advance listings. Its against all protocol and conditions to reveal what's happening. I think you will have noticed, he gets off on it. Hoping somebody will think he's important, after spending a week writing a guide to Little Lever.

Overall, a horrible bunch, not one of them employable or worth a £100,000 a year.
Alex seems a nice enough bloke, just a bit wet behind his ears, like his Auntie Karon.
