Council leader joins police on the beat
COUNCIL leader Cliff Morris joined police officers as they walked the beat in a Bolton neighbourhood.
Accompanied by Police Community Support Officers, they talked to people in the Queen's Park and Gilnow area to find out more about their concerns.
Sgt Diane Johnson said: "We want to find out the scale of problems such as anti-social behaviour and prioritise them to make this area safer for the people who live here.
"This initiative is as much about reassuring people and making ourselves more approachable."
Cllr Morris said: "This is my ward and by hearing residents concerns I can take them back to the council and we can work together with the police. An initiative like this highlights that there is a police presence in the community."
Officers and councillors walked the beat from the UCAN Centre in Hatfield Road to Chorley New Road.
Police will tackle issues raised on the walk during a Neighbourhood Day at the UCAN Centre tomorrow.

I watched a programme called street wars last night and it basically follows the police on their daily duties. No obviously I don’t know if the programme was edited to give the UK a bad name but some of the scroats they picked up, mainly people in their late teens – early twenties just makes me think what on earth is the future for the UK.
One lad had smacked a guy to the ground in a row over a taxi queue and when the guy hit the ground the lad persisted in kicking him, including on his head. It was all shown on camera as well.
How on earth the arresting officers didn’t take the scumbag down a side street and beat 7 bells of sxxt out of him I don’t know – maybe because of the cameras.
The worrying thing was the scumbag got away pretty much scot free even though it was all caught on camera.
It then showed a numpty in America trying to hold up a shop by pretending he had a gun by putting two fingers inside his jumper. This guy got 5 years in jail.
The lack of justice system we have and the worrying report this week about judges being too lenient, along with everything else we have to put up with means the coffin lid is almost shut on the UK!

What kind of problems could Morris expect to see on a ten minute walk accompanied by coppers?
If he wanted to see what kind of problems the police face in Bolton, he should have spent a shift shadowing one of them.
He might have actually seen some crime during the two hour stint riding around in a cop car. Although, the five hours watching a guy fill out forms would have been less usefull.
However, in all honesty, Morris would have done better to read the local rag for a week or talk to folks passing the Town Hall.

Morris never use to listen to anybody anyway, so, whats different now? If it dosnt make him a profit he's not interested.

Come on, there's an election coming up. He has to be seen to do something. Send him up to Breightmet in the evenings, after dark. He'll lose some weight running away from that place. Another load of political crap.

David Chaytor MP did five night shifts with bobbies last year - part of a parliamentary scheme apparently.

Your posts on here prove it and it is obvious that you are also an alcoholic, lazy sick note freak. You go on and on about Asians yet continue to live in an area that is mainly Asian. If you really hate it that much then get your lazy arse into work, earn some money and move. It's really not that difficult. All it takes is brains but you don't appear to have any so you may be stuck there for life. Who is to blame for this eh? You and you only.
