Campo makes peace

PEACE has broken out at the Reebok, but there appears to be no way back for Abdoulaye Meite.

Ivan Campo has apologised to Gary Megson for throwing a strop when he was substituted during Wanderers' scoreless draw with Manchester City, and he will play against Arsenal on Saturday.

So too will El-Hadji Diouf, who is back on side with his team-mates after concerns over his commitment to the cause. Senior players held a meeting with the Senegal international following his withdrawal after an ineffective first half in the defeat at Wigan.

Papering over the cracks methinks.

Our time is up, we have had a great 8 years and better supported teams than us would give their right arms for the prem ride we have had, half the championship get better gates than us.

Think it through if we stay up we wont be able to sack Megson and will will def go down the season after with him in charge. Lets get the pain over with now.

Campo off to his restaruant in Mallorca, Diouf off to a bigger team (try Wigan) Davies has always wanted to play for Sheffield United, Nolan off to a big Merseyside club (Tranmere). Jussi off to Man City.
I'll still be there though.

Rebuild around Guthrie, Cahill and Al Habsi with Phil Brown if he fails to take Hull up.

We may well turn Arsenal over on Saturday though!

I can cope with the despair its the hope I cant stand

Anyway see you on Saturday and keep smiling whatever!

Erm what about the crap 'efforts' of our illustrious fat captain Nolan? What about the shameful performances of that waste of space Taylor?

Nowt wrong with clearing the air, but I think Campo and Diouf are not the worst culprits.

Mugson OUT!

taylor is being used wrong. he's on the front 3 for us, but he's not a winger, he lacks the pace to get there. he's best on the left side of a 4-4-2 midfield where he scores the occasional great goal but gives 110% Right now he's trying hard but it's obvious he's out of place, just too far forward. Megson seems to have seen his good goals and thought he could play in a front 3 but I don't think he can. If we switched to 4-4-2 properly I think he'd settle better.

As for Meite, suspend him without pay, make him train on his own and sell him in the summer. I don't care how much we lose on him financially, nobody is in a position to do that to any club, and not ours. Campo you can understand his frustration, he's always given us 110%, Meite has rarely given us 70%

disagree with you, he is a good player! I was told Megson came in the dressing room at half time and basically singled meitie out for the 2 goals!

Now weather at fault or not i think a decent man manager like big sam wouldnt have done that in the way that megson did it.

we have a manager who should be managing at non league level with semi pros, not the premiere league.

Glad the hairy one is back on board. Can't blame him for feeling peeved that he was replaced by O'Brien. Even at his age , he has got more pace than Joey and more football in his big toe than most of them . Meite however can disappear rapid. He is completely useless. Oh, and the manager can go with him.

On the England theme, I'm glad to see that Fabio has recognised what a great forward thinker our Gary is and introduced the same playing system at national level - the Lone Ranger up front supported by a clueless and unco-ordinated midfield including an over the hill right sided mid-fielder for old times sake and a captain who has no motivational qualities whatsoever.
Trouble is Gary might think it gives him some credibility!

Glad to see Campo is over his 'strop.' I've no time for pedantic players but this was frustration at being substituted and it shows Campo's real commitment to the cause - good! He may have slowed a bit now but he is still a superb player. As regards Meite, whoever chose him in the first place?(Big Sam).We should have dumped him and kept Faye. The big problem with Wanderers is clear: we can't score goals. (get teaching 'em Nat!) Although we can't do without the work and skills of Davies and Diouf, they are paid to strike and are not doing so. At the risk of sounding like Arthur Scargill, (remember him?) for goodness sake, strikers - S-T-R-I-K-E!!!!!

So let me get this right- the senior players held a talk with no management involved?

So Megson does NOTHING - as proved on the pitch!!!! This is very seriously sounding like the last few days of LSL reign all over again - only this time its SMEGHEAD who should know better.

Smeghead should be completely embarrased about himself - how many Premiership teams has he taken down?

How many teams, full stop, has he got relegated?

How many teams fans has he put noses out of place with his torrid managerial experience and absolute disregard for the fans?

MEGSON JUST DO EVERYONE A FAVOUR AND LEAVE (AND NEVER ENTER THE FORAY OF FOOTBALL EVER AGAIN - YOU ARE USELESS!!!) - AND AT THE SAME TIME TAKE GARTSIDE WITH YOU!

yeah on the england set up, capello needs to grow some balls and drop players like Brown, Joe Cole, Gerrard, Lampard who have never done it for england

megson also needs to grow some balls and drop the non performers from our team (cohen, rasiak, taylor, nolan) and play a slightly attacking team from time to time

his swings and roundabouts analogy is the most stupid thing ive ever heard. admittedly if we went all out attack wed have a weaker defense, but when all the fans are talking about is 2 up front at home....

relegation is the best thing that can happen this season. if we stay up megson will take all the plaudits and well just get relegated next season. also i really dont want another season where a goal only happens once avery other game

Brilliant. I've not been on here for a couple of weeks and when I do nice to see the usual people still enjoying life. What a joyful existence - you wanna get some vitamin c inside you, do some sit-up or something, anything to raise your mood. We might get relegated, we might not...it's happened before and it'll happen again. Together now...deep breaths.

Here is a great interview by the bolton news mr G Sharrock:

If your highly-regarded manager leaves in the summer and your most prized striker leaves in the transfer window, it's probably worth bracing yourself for a less-than-vintage season. Bolton know that better than most.

The departure of Sam Allardyce prompted a drop to the bottom of the Premier League table under Sammy Lee and, although Gary Megson has given them a fighting chance of survival, Bolton are still mired in the relegation zone. The loss of Nicolas Anelka to Chelsea has hurt just as much - Bolton have scored just seven goals in 14 games since the Frenchman left.

Everyone knows that Arsenal need to win at the Reebok to reignite their fading title challenge but Bolton are perhaps even more desperate for points to climb out of the bottom three. At least the omens are good for the Trotters - they have won their last three home League games against Arsene Wenger's side.

We asked Gordon Sharrock of the Bolton Evening News for a Bolton perspective ahead of Saturday's game. Read on for his views on those high-profile departures, the progress made by Megson, Bolton's bad luck and why Arsenal should expect another physical challenge this weekend.

THE STORY SO FAR
"It is no surprise at all that Bolton have done poorly considering Sam Allardyce left last summer. He was always going to be a big act to follow in more ways than one. He left a big footprint on the club and on the town and it was always going to be difficult for anyone replacing him. Sammy Lee came in and there was a six-month period where Bolton were looking for stability but they didn't actually get it. It was a difficult time for Sammy with changes on and off the field. He went after just nine games into the season when Bolton were bottom with five points.

"Gary Megson won't argue that he wasn't the most popular choice but he had a lot to do, he had a lot to sort out when he arrived in October. Bolton were bottom and they were fighting an uphill battle even then. Gary got things well-organised and mounted a revival which took Bolton out of the bottom three."

SADLY MISSED?
"Any team in the country would have missed Nicolas Anelka, that goes without saying. Bolton felt they couldn't keep him beyond January, it was big money from Chelsea. The biggest gripe among Bolton fans is that they didn't get someone else in to replace him. Some fans were angry to see him sold but some fans understood it was impossible to keep Nicolas against his will. Those who accepted that Nicolas wanted to move to a Champions League club really wanted to see the money re-invested in the team because Nicolas was the one scoring all the goals. But Bolton didn't do that and of course the goals have dried up since."

CAUSE FOR OPTIMISM
"They can stay up. What I will say is that if Gary Megson and this team had been together from day one, Bolton would not be in the bottom three. I reckon they would be mid-table. That obviously isn't the case but Megson has brought in Gary Cahill - a very good signing - and the organisation which has been brought back to the side has made Bolton hard to beat. They had a good run when Megson came in which took them towards mid-table but they could never quite get there and leave the rest behind! Now they are in a dreadful run which has dragged them back into it. But I think it's a dreadful run of results rather than a dreadful run of performances."

CAUSE FOR CONCERN
"When you are in this situation things tend to conspire against you and Bolton have just lost Jussi Jaaskelainen for the rest of the season with a back injury although Ali Al-Habsi is a competent keeper. They've lost Ricardo Gardner at left-back, he busted a rib in the Manchester City game last weekend. And Kevin Nolan is suspended for two games. They are Bolton's three longest serving players and would have almost certainly have played. Arsenal might be encouraged by that."

TALKING TACTICS
"I don't think Arsenal can expect anything different from Bolton. This team plays similar to the way Bolton have always played with the same formation. There will still be the threat of Kevin Davies and he has upset Arsenal defences in the past. It's a style which has upset Arsene in the past and I don't think it will be any different on Saturday. Whether it is as effective this time remains to be seen, much depends on whether Arsenal are fired up to get their title challenge back on track."

Well Gordon if megson was in charge from the begging we would be mid table can i have a pint of what you have been drinking or was it a loving cup you share with gartside.

I agree with you...I went on the BBC premiership predictor and fed in the results for the remaining games for all teams this season. I tried to be dispassionate and realistic about the whole thing, but here's what came out:

13 Newcastle 39
14 Wigan 38
15 Sunderland 38
16 Reading 36
17 Birmingham 35
18 Bolton 32
19 Fulham 26
20 Derby 12

And on top of this, did you see just how quick Anelka was last night...we've nobody who can move at that pace and strike fear into the opposition's defence.

Still, I'll be there next season just hoping we aren't on our way down another division.

I think part of Campo's problem is he just doesnt like, or rate, Nolan. I may be wrong, but that's the impression I get. When Nolan scores, Campo is always the 1 walking slowly back to the centre spot while most of his teammates celebrate. When Nolan's having yet another poor game, I can feel Campo's frustration at normally being the 1 to make way for the sub, its never Nolan and I have some sympathy for his reaction while not condoning it. One thing you can be sure of with Nolan is that he wants the team to win whether or not he's in the team, it always comes across to me that Campo wants the team to fail if he isnt picked, I dont honestly think he is a 100% club man like a Davies, Speed, Nolan or Gardner.

He was replaced by McCann, who can occasionally be good and is better at tackling and shooting than Campo. But on the day he was poor v City so the substitution clearly didnt work. We all know Gardner should have been replaced by Stelios not J O'B at h-t, but that would have been far too attacking for our defensive manager.

i am gutted to see the likes of him go and also to see the stick he is getting from some on this site, he is the best footballer left at the club, noboddy else has tries to keep it on the deckand split a defence with a pass. OK he hasnt been up to scratch recently but WHO HAS????????? NOLAN, DIOUF, JUSSI????

Nobby, its only a bit of fun but I dont know how you get Fulham to finish 6 points worse off than us! Realistically they will pick up a minimum 3 wins v Derby, Sunderland and Brum, but I have them to finish on 36 points with us and go down on goal difference! I have Brum to finish on 35 even after beating City on Saturday. I admit our total of 36 may be a touch optimistic but we do need to over-achieve by getting 3 points out of Arsenal, Spurs, Villa and Boro and 2 wins v WHU and Sunderland. Not impossible surely? (I'm allowing myself to forget for 1 minute that Megson is our manager).

I get the feeling that you cannot "see the wood for the trees" here, Megson is just doing what he knows best, the person who employed him is the person who you and everyone else should be giving abuse to ............. by the way, the person in question is of course Mr Phil Gartside, you know the chap, he was televised secretly trying to sell Jay Jay our captain and also recently sold the striker who scored 80% of our goals this season before opening the door for him to jet off to warm the Chelsea bench.

I hope you are right there Jon.

Personally I feel we were relegated when we did not sign a striker after Anelka was given away by our Chairman or come to think of it, we were relegated when Anelka signed for Chelsea .... last November !!

it always comes across to me that Campo wants the team to fail if he isnt picked, I dont honestly think he is a 100% club man like a Davies, Speed, Nolan or Gardner.

I do agree with you upto a point on this but i can remember seeing campo stood in front of the dugout pre lsl after being taken off and shouting his team mates on.
on many occasions when not picked or injured i have seen him stood near the tunnel suited up watching the match.
now not many players do that these days.
This season though i have noticed a change and personally i think its his fitness,i think campo is more like nolan in terms of when his body cant do what his head wants he gets frustrated and his game goes out the window.
And i do think after all that went on with him and lsl he part blamed some of the players as well.
But for me even though past his best there is still mutual respect between campo and the fans.

Let's say, for the sake of argument, that Bolton do stay up (and, for the record, I believe that we can - we have the potential, certainly) what will change?

Many have said it, we've been punching above our weight for a long time. We've been struggling for 18 months - with and without Lardydunce.

What changes are likely?

There's rumours that a consortium headed by Lardydunce are coming to buy the club. Will Megson be sacked then? To be replaced by... Lardydunce.

Alternatively, no buy out, we're stuck with Megson, Gartside and Davies (not super Kev...I'd like to be stuck with him anyday!). Megson won't be sacked if we are relegated.

No change there then.

BWFC need to focus on the short term - c'mon the Whites! - with their eyes on the long term.

Big changes are required.

It's like giving an old banger a spray paint.

Don't pimp my ride, give us a new engine!!!!

You have used the same insult to describe Big Sam on at least 10 occassions lately, and I dont think anyone responded in a positive way, or thought it at all amusing. Sam would always be welcomed back at the Reebok in whatever capacity, preferrably Manager. If you arent naturally witty, dont try is the answer.

ivan campo is a legend! he has been fantastic for us during his time at our club and when he leaves it will be the last of the european class to leave bolton! i am gutted to see the likes of him go and also to see the stick he is getting from some on this site, he is the best footballer left at the club, noboddy else has tries to keep it on the deckand split a defence with a pass. OK he hasnt been up to scratch recently but WHO HAS????????? NOLAN, DIOUF, JUSSI????
Totally disagree mate..hes a liability, and an expensive luxury. When was the last time he spilt a defence and those passes he used to try and hit Anelka with... he could still be trying now and wouldnt have got near..great player loads of talent, wrong league tho he needs to be playing beach soccer with fat Eric.

From Sky Sports

Gary Megson has admitted that Abdoulaye Meite could be allowed to leave Bolton on loan after refusing to come out for the second half against Manchester United.

The Ivory Coast international was replaced at half-time in the 2-0 defeat to Old Trafford but Megson has revealed that it was not because he was injured or because he had opted to make a tactical change.

Megson claims Meite just decided he did not want to continue, and the Bolton boss admits the behaviour was not well received by his team-mates.

Megson has other options in defence and had been prepared to loan Meite out to Ipswich, but he insists the player himself rejected the move.

There are a number of other Championship clubs, including Hull, interested in Meite and Megson is still ready to let him go out for the rest of the season.

Not happy

"He just decided he didn't want to play on against Manchester United in the second half," Megson told Sky Sports News.

"The players weren't happy with it, the squad wasn't happy with it.

"We've had the opportunity, Abdoulaye turned it down, to go to Ipswich on loan. I would have let him go.

"There's another couple of championship clubs he can go on to until the end of the season.

"It's not a case that we won't pick Abdoulaye Meite, it's a case of we've got people playing in that position and playing very well."

Get rid of Megson on loan at the same time.

disagree with you, he is a good player! I was told Megson came in the dressing room at half time and basically singled meitie out for the 2 goals! Now weather at fault or not i think a decent man manager like big sam wouldnt have done that in the way that megson did it. we have a manager who should be managing at non league level with semi pros, not the premiere league.
I agree with Den.
As i have said before these players who refuse to play should be sent bags packing! Crap attitude . They get paid to do the job so do it!.
Not saying who is right or wrong . But Meite has not shown his worth of late and is more a liability.
good on Campo , for taking the initiative to patch things up. Maybe this will be a rallying point for the team.

Our problems stem from roots much deeper than Meite's and Campo's tantrums.

They stem from a lack of foresight from Gartside and Davies and short term planning from the managers.

Oh Bob, I'm not trying to be witty...
but you do patronising and condescending very well.

Shame about the spelling.Bob.

i get paid to do a job but if i found that the organisation i was working for drafted in a cluless manager who is truely incompetant then i can sympathise with the unwillingness to work for such a person.

this blagger has been in charge for far too long now and the players just dont want to be associated with him. i think its fair enough because i dont want to be associated with him either.

have a look at how many players have had a stab at the current regime- speed, campo, meite, cid, wilhelmson and their will be many more once we have gone down.

you start to think have all these players lost the plot or is their something in what they are saying! they where all excellent players last term, its a big part of a managers job to man manage!

Excellent comments, birch. Too much of a pattern here with Megson and player fall outs. This is a pal of a pal story, so may be no truth in it. Reckons one of the players told him that Megson was screaming so loudly at Meite that Meite said " Why dont you sub me then " Apparently it wasnt a refusal to play, just a player who didnt really respond to that type of man management.
I dont really rate Meite, thought he was the weak link many times, not clearing the ball properly, but this is just a sympom as you say, of a dressing room which has had its spirit crushed.
My worst fear on Saturday is Wenger playing his youth squad, and them running rings round us. Havent we had enough humiliations for one season?

Are you for real man...I'd be happy if he never played again. More pace than Joey..what!! He has cost us time and time again with his "hollywood ball" that always fails. Hes on his arse more than hes up and always tuirns the wrong way into trouble normally right uin front of goal. The only thing LSL goT right was trying to get rid of the overaged carthorse.
Yes, he is slow, but still quicker than O'Brien. In fact, so am I.
