Wanderers today completed the signing of Matt Taylor for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £4million.

The 26-year-old former England Under-21 international completed his move from Portsmouth after undergoing a medical at the Reebok Stadium.

The deal brings to an end Gary Megson's lengthy pursuit of the versatile left-side player who can operate either at left back or in midfield.

Wanderers agreed a fee for the player at the start of the transfer window but had to wait for Pompey boss Harry Redknapp to sanction the move as he wanted to bring new players to Fratton Park first.

Taylor has signed a three and a half-year deal.

Worryingly though we are desparate for a striker and at least 1 centre half but no moves in these areas?

Very pleased with this signing. Good strong England player with a superb left peg!!!!

Hope he plays as a left sided midfielder as Harry Rednap played him at Pompey.

Two good solid young signings so far...keep up the good work Mego!!!

Melberg would be the ideal CB we need and then get Defoe or Bent on loan for the rest of the season with the chance to buy if we stay up.

Rumours yesterday that he was spotted at Euxton were true then. Good post whoever that was !

We have done well to beat others to his signature, but I'm still not sure about him. Rednapp is no mug. If this guy was that good he would have been a regular in the Pompey team. Been on the Pompey fanzone and the reviews about him are mixed. I hope I'm worrying about nothing because 4 million is a lot of money. We have never spent like this before and we need to get value because if we go down we wont get this sort of cash again.

Cahill from Villa and Gomis from Saint Ettienne and it will have been a good January !!

Great signing. God we might even have someone with a left foot taking our right sided corners! And he can shoot - must be the first player who can shoot on target since Frandsen and Jensen. Remember when we used to get free kicks and the goalkeeper was actually tested?

What planet are you on Chris, this guy is a quality full back who can play further up the field too. He brings quality to our side. Well done Megson, im impressed. Last week it was reported other teams were in for this guy, then I thought we have no chance then, but to my suprise Bolton Wanderers have come up trumps. All we need now is a quality midfielder who has a good engine on him who can from box to box like Roy Keane used to. Not to mention a out and out striker is needed, desperately. Come on Megson & Bolton Board get your money spent on a good un!!

There are people on our website that dont rate Guthrie, so it just goes to show you have to make your own mind up. Pompey have a load of midfielders and I guess Muntari (£8mil) is the reason Taylor doesnt play. No disgrace in that.

The on player keeping Taylor out was Nico Krancjar who cant help but score for fun on the left.
Harry did not want Matty to go but he wants first team football and not playing second fiddle to Krancjar.

Calm down ladies.

I am referring to the fee, which I believe is £2m more than we should have spent.

Premiership experience is important, but I would have rather we covered centre forward and centre half first, then other positions.

A step in the right direction - I know we are loaded with midfielders but very few of them are up to scratch and will be offloaded I'm sure in the summer if not earlier (Wilhemsson, Braaten possible loan, Campo possibly on his way out, Nolan not up to it etc). I think he'll hopefully be played in midfield rather than in defence where he will be cover for Gardner who I'd still prefer at left back despite his failings. Unlike some of our past signings like Samuel, McCann, Alonso, Helguson, O'Brien I'm a lot less underwhelmed by this one. Fresh faces alone will liven up the squad a bit if they're half decent. We need a minimum of two other players and I would prefer three - a centre back, a creative mid, and at least one quality striker. £4 million is a lot of money for Bolton but fans can't complain when we splash the cash when we've been crying out for it to happen. Lets face it - £4 million is pretty much the minimum for a half decent Premier league player, especially if he's English as they are always at a premium.

If so it looks like we could potentially have a good squad for the remainder of the season. I hope that these recent movements will stop the incessant abuse being aimed at Gartside who I personally believe has done a marvelous job with Bolton over the last 10 years. Agree, 4 million sounds a lot but in reality its just the going rate. If truth be told in the current climate Im surprised the fee wasnt closer to 6mill. as everyone will be aware the price for good young english players is always higher due to lack (sadly) of available talent.

I don't want to get into the whole Gartside argument here again but I think that the club was successful largely because of Allardyce and it was inspite of Gartside's tenure rather than because of him. Gartside had a good manager rather than Bolton having a decent chairman. Steinsson and Taylor are two positive signings - lets see at least two more. As much as we need to be ambitious players like Diarra and Defoe won't come to teams like Bolton as long as we are in our current mess and Defoe probably wouldn't even leave London given he thinks he's a celebrity.

Wrong the Club was largely successful because of RIOCH. Him pulling consistent crowds of 18,000 plus at every home match and cup match.

Without RIOCH the REEBOK would have never existed.
